Builder: Duncan Taylor Builders
Products Used: 100mm Enertherm PIR Insulation
The Situation
Located in Fendalton, Christchurch, Glandovey Road was designed to create a versatile space combining an art studio, office, and garage, all seamlessly integrated into the existing home.
Working with Prau Architecture and Duncan Taylor Builders, the design focused on achieving high insulation performance within a pitched metal tray skillion roof. This along with keeping the rafters exposed to maintain the desired aesthetic.
The roofing system needed to deliver excellent thermal performance, durability, and visual continuity with the rest of the home.
The Challenge
The main design challenge was maintaining high thermal performance while exposing the internal rafters of the pitched roof. Conventional roof builds often conceal insulation between rafters, which conflicted with the architect’s vision for an open, expressed interior structure.
Additional complexity came from the inclusion of wall-to-ceiling windows, requiring careful detailing to maintain thermal integrity and meet engineering and performance requirements.
The Solution
Nuralite supplied 100mm Enertherm PIR Insulation Board to provide the continuous layer of insulation across the roofline. This enabled a warm roof system that kept rafters visible without compromising performance.
This approach achieved a high-performance thermal envelope. It also reduces any energy loss and aligns with the project’s design goals. The system also supports long-term sustainability goals by lowering heating and cooling costs.
The design team continues to use Nuralite warm roof solutions for their proven durability, compliance, and energy efficiency, backed by ongoing technical advice and support.
