Introduction

Nuratherm XPS Combi is a multi-function insulation, membrane protection and drainage board designed for Below-Grade waterproofing applications and Inverted Roofs systems. Its extruded polystyrene (XPS) core provides high thermal resistance, while the integrated drainage layer ensures water is directed away from the membrane surface, relieving hydrostatic accumulation.

It is most commonly used in tanking installations, such as foundation walls or lift pits, or on Greenroofs. Nuratherm XPS Combi is compatible with both Nuraply 3PT, 3PG and Bituthene systems and is installed externally over the membrane, providing protection during backfilling.

Installation is straightforward but requires appropriate substrate preparation and integration with drainage methods. For specifiers looking to simplify tanking assemblies while achieving long-term thermal and waterproofing performance, this system component offers a complete and efficient solution.

Considerations

  • Must be ballasted or restrained: XPS boards are lightweight and can shift under wind uplift or float in water. They require ballast (e.g., pavers, gravel) or mechanical restraint.

  • Not suitable for direct membrane adhesion: Membranes must not be applied directly to XPS. The Nuratherm XPS combi board must always be installed outside the membrane.

  • Drainage must be managed: Nuratherm XPS Combi provides includes drainage channels to handle moisture. In situations where hydrostatic pressure is expected an additional Nuralite Drainage Mat is recommended.

FAQs

What is Nuratherm XPS Combi used for?
Nuratherm XPS Combi is an innovative board that combines rigid XPS insulation with integrated drainage channels. In low-risk situations, this dual-purpose product simplifies the installation process by reducing the need for separate drainage layers, while ensuring continuous thermal protection.
Is Nuratherm XPS Combi compatible with Nuraply tanking systems?
Yes, Nuratherm XPS Combi is designed for full compatibility with Nuraply tanking membranes. It can be installed directly over these membranes, providing a continuous layer of insulation while relieving moisture accumulation. In situations of hydrostatic pressure an additional Nuralite Drainage Mat is recommended.
Is Nuratherm XPS Combi compatible with Nuraply Greenroof systems?
Yes, Nuratherm XPS Combi is designed for external insulation of walls and roofs. It is a good solution for Greenroofs and Ballast Roofs as, in addition to insulation, it provides a layer of protection of the waterproofing membrane.
