Nuraply 3PM Warm Roof with DensDeck

Introduction

Nuraply ALU is a specialised vapour barrier membrane, used at the base of warm roof systems to control moisture movement and prevent condensation. Featuring an aluminium foil face and a durable bituminous backing, it is designed to be installed directly on the structural deck beneath rigid insulation.

Nuraply ALU has been used extensively in warm roof builds across commercial, education, and high-spec residential projects. Its compatibility with Enertherm PIR and other rigid insulation boards ensures that it forms a secure part of the roof build-up.

Installation requires careful detailing at joints and penetrations to ensure a continuous barrier. While not a waterproofing membrane, Nuraply ALU offers short-term moisture resistance during construction—particularly useful for protecting CLT panels before the full system is installed. For specifiers designing airtight, efficient envelopes, Nuraply ALU is a trusted solution.

Considerations

  • Not suitable as a waterproofing membrane: Nuraply ALU is a vapour control layer, and must be used in conjunction with a complete roofing system.

  • Must be installed on dry, clean substrates: Contaminated or damp surfaces will compromise adhesion and may lead to blistering or membrane delamination.

  • Not effective without sealing all edges and penetrations:  Poor sealing will result in vapour leakage and condensation risk.

FAQs

What is Nuraply ALU and how does it work as a vapour barrier?
Nuraply ALU is an aluminium-faced, bituminous membrane that acts as a vapour barrier within warm roof systems. Its primary role is to prevent warm, moist air from migrating into the insulation layers where condensation might occur. By maintaining a continuous vapour control layer directly on the structural deck, it helps preserve both the thermal and waterproofing performance of the overall roof build-up.
Is Nuraply ALU compatible with warm roof insulation systems?
Yes, Nuraply ALU is engineered to work seamlessly with warm roof insulation systems such as Enertherm PIR. It forms an integral layer within the roof build-up, ensuring proper moisture control and contributing to the overall energy efficiency and durability of the warm roof assembly.
Where should Nuraply ALU be installed in the roof build-up?
Nuraply ALU is installed immediately on the structural deck, just above the vapour barrier, and before the insulation layer. This placement ensures that the membrane forms a continuous seal, protecting the insulation and ensuring compliance with NZ energy and moisture control standards.
