Introduction

Nuraply TPO is a modern single-ply membrane designed for high-performance flat roof construction. With years of proven use in modern homes, commercial buildings and education projects across New Zealand, its hot-air welded seams create a sleek, watertight surface ideal for large, exposed roof areas.

Architects and designers favour it for its clean appearance and efficient installation process. Nuraply TPO integrates easily with warm roof assemblies, offering thermal continuity without the use of open flame. It’s a preferred solution for projects seeking clean application and long-term performance. A fleeceback version is used as part of the Nuratherm Warm roof system to provide vapour pathways combined with a great appearance.

Nuraply TPO delivers a high-spec finish trusted by professionals nationwide, reassured by the CodeMark-certified solution backed by Nuralite’s expert technical support and documented performance history.

Considerations

  • Weather-sensitive installation: Nuraply TPO must be installed in dry conditions. Moisture during installation can  compromise long-term performance.

  • Requires protection on trafficked areas: TPO is not suitable for direct foot traffic or heavy loads. Pedestrian areas must include a protective overlay like tiles or pavers.

  • Dark colours are more vulnerable: Dark-coloured TPO membranes absorb more heat, which can accelerate degradation and reduce membrane lifespan — light colours are preferred.

  • Substrates must be correctly prepared: minimum 17 mm plywood for roofs (21 mm for decks), supported at 600 mm centres, laid in a brick pattern with tight joints, and fixed using stainless steel fasteners and glue.

  • Roofs must be built with proper falls: a minimum of 1:80 is required, but 1:40 is recommended for plywood and 1:60 for concrete or metal substrates to avoid ponding and meet CodeMark-certified standards.

FAQs

Can Nuraply TPO be used on green roofs?
Nuraply TPO could serve as the waterproof layer beneath green roofs but Nuralite does not recommend it. Since Green roofs are hard to remediate it is considered better to install the more robust Nuraply 3PG double layer system.
Why only offer light coloured TPO membrane in NZ?
A light-coloured TPO membrane helps reduce the system temperature. Our experience shows that dark membranes stress the TPO glues and cause the memrbane itself to degrade prematurely. We want to be 100% confident in the intergrity of our system so have made the decision to steer clear of dark TPO.
How is TPO different from other single-ply membranes?
Nuraply TPO stands out due to its heat-welded seam technology and free-of-plasticisers formulation. Unlike other membranes (such as PVC or KEE), it does not contain chlorine which is on the RED List. Importantly, Nuraply TPO is 1.5mm thick which is essential for longetivity. Others in NZ offer 1.1mm membranes which leave little product protecting the scrim layer.
