The Situation
Located at 109 Salisbury Street, the Christchurch Youth Hub is New Zealand's first purpose-built facility for young people aged 10 to 25. Designed to support holistic development, it brings together housing, health, education, and recreational services in one integrated space.
Developed in partnership with rangatahi and community stakeholders, the Hub aims to provide a safe, inclusive environment. Stage One, completed in late 2024, includes transitional housing for 22 young people, wrap-around service spaces, and an outdoor activity courtyard.
The Challenge
The project required a roofing system that could meet strict criteria for long-term energy efficiency, thermal comfort, and durability, especially important in a high-use facility supporting vulnerable youth.
The roof also needed to perform on a low pitch (1°) and integrate smoothly with other structural and environmental systems. Traditional solutions risked falling short on insulation, weatherproofing and long-term maintenance.
The Solution
The team selected the Nuralite 3PM Warm Roof System for its ability to meet all project demands. Designed for low-pitch roofs, the system offers high durability, strong thermal performance, and CodeMark certification.
Installation was a collaborative process between Nuralite, Field Studio of Architecture, Gunac Waterproofing Specialists and the team at Naylor Love. The system's thermal insulation properties help stabilise indoor temperatures, reducing reliance on heating and cooling systems.
By choosing Nuralite, the project team delivered a warm, energy-efficient, and low-maintenance roofing solution, contributing to the Youth Hub's mission of supporting young people in a safe, future-ready environment.
